Priorities

Dear Fellow Woodbridge Voter:
The November 6 election presents all of us with the opportunity to build a “New Woodbridge.” Together we can solve the problems of overdevelopment, traffic congestion, crowded schools, rising crime, and illegal immigration that threaten our quality of life. I am committed to working full-time to bring about that vision. I ask you for your vote on November 6.

My vision of a “New Woodbridge” includes returning a sense of community here through:

  • Revitalization of Route 1, including mixed-use areas where we can live, work and play in close proximity, similar to the Reston Town Center
  • Providing transportation alternatives including reversible lanes during rush hour, a commuter ferry service from Woodbridge to DC, and an extension of Metrorail from Springfield to Potomac Mills Mall
  • Strict enforcement of our neighborhood zoning laws and increased fines and penalties to employers who hire illegal immigrants and
  • A world class education system that eliminates overcrowded schools, exceeds SOL standards, and where teachers are paid on par with the national average.
To achieve this, a Supervisor must have the commitment and experience to make all of this a reality.

Commitment

I have been a tireless community advocate for citizens since moving to Woodbridge fifteen years ago. As Chairman of Prince William County’s Future Commission, Member of the Transportation Advisory Committee, HOA President, PTO Vice-President, and graduate of the Prince William Community Leadership Institute, I will be your full-time Supervisor.

Experience

My professional career has included federal, state, and local government positions – and I understand how all levels of government can cooperate to help our community. As a small business owner, I also understand what we need to do to promote and retain businesses and attract better jobs.

Since winning the June Primary with 68% of the vote in Woodbridge, I have been endorsed by the Prince William Education Association (teachers), Prince William Police Association, Prince William Firefighters Association, and the Northern Virginia of the AFL-CIO.

Please join me on Tuesday, November 6th in taking the first step together in realizing our vision by voting for me at the polls. Information is available by contacting me at 703.680.1772 and visiting our website at www.PrincipiForSupervisor.com. Thank you for your support, and please remember to vote Tuesday, November 6th.

Controlling Growth

Woodbridge has experienced explosive residential growth over the last 15 years. Our population has grown to nearly 375,000 people when it was just 215,000 in 1990. Consequently, our basic infrastructure has not kept up – our roads are congested, our children go to school in trailers, our crime continues to rise. Citizens feel trapped here and no longer enjoy the quality of life that Woodbridge once offered. We need to plan for the right type of growth – office and retail, so as to bring jobs here and avoid having to travel to other counties for high-end restaurants and shopping.
I believe we need a full-time Supervisor in Woodbridge with the energy, leadership, and experience capable of managing this crisis and one who is in a position to accelerate the implementation of our shared vision of life here in the County today. This commitment will require a number of changes – additional market incentives to encourage office and retail development; dialogue with all stakeholders at the table, including citizen groups; increased proffer negotiating leverage; greater long-range planning efforts; and increased transparency of Planning Committee activities – to ensure the long-range needs of our citizens is front and center of local government.

Keeping Us Safe

Development has brought with it a crime wave, increases in the number of burglaries, assaults, and homicides. The continued rise in crime is not being repeated in surrounding jurisdictions. I believe the fundamental mission of local government is to ensure the security and safety of our citizens and our children. We can only accomplish this by ensuring that an adequate number of police, fire, and EMS professionals -- adequately trained, resourced, and paid – are protecting our streets, our homes, and our families. Given the increasing gang violence we see in our own neighborhoods, we need to step up our efforts and find sustainable solutions that include prevention programs, targeted services, and stronger enforcement efforts.

Social Services

I believe in restoring the recent social service budget cuts imposed by the majority of the Board of County Supervisors this year. I feel very strongly that we must work non-stop to maintain and improve the quality of life for all of our citizens, including those that need our help the most. While such programs as the senior daycare center, Office of Youth, early intervention, mental health, and drug abuse programs now require immediate financial support to maintain the same service levels as last year, we also need to quickly determine how best to ensure a sustainable revenue stream for these critical services that will insulate them from possible future real estate market adjustments.

World Class Education

Prince William County has been ranked as one of the best school districts in the nation. As the father of twin, 8-year old girls, I appreciate just how important it is to continuously enhance our education and to continue to invest in our children. I will work to restore the relationship between the two County Boards and fully fund the needs of the school system to assist it in maintaining a word class education for our children. The Board of Supervisors needs to provide the funding necessary for the School Board to improve teacher pay and benefits. Like our fire and police, teachers are our everyday heroes, as they dedicate themselves -- at great sacrifice – in the future of our children. We also need to increase the availability of workforce housing so teachers that work in Prince William County can afford to live here as well.

Preserving Open Space & Adding Parks/Recreation

Open space, parks and recreation facilities, cultural centers, high end shopping and dining all help to define our quality of life in the County. Supervisors must aggressively preserve and protect our open spaces and protect it from uncontrolled development and environmental impacts. I pledge to work to protect Prince William County’s rural crescent and consider what is necessary to prevent future governments from developing these designated areas.
